Issue 1 – Sosokheda News

A historic event was organized jointly by Community Forest Rights Management Committee (CFRMC) Chethar and Sosokheda villages and Samaj Pragati Sahyog for handing over the Caste Certificate; Jati Vivekan Prakasam to the rural tribal people at District Panchayat School, Chethar and Samaj Mandir Complex, Sosokheda.

The issue is that it has been 75 years since India got independence but they did not have any authentic documents to claim themselves as tribals. These tribal people did not get the identity of tribals despite being tribals, due to which they were deprived of government development schemes.

Knowing the need and importance of caste certificate, the process of obtaining it was jointly started by Community Forest Rights Management Committee and Samaj Pragati Sahyog in the month of September 2022.

In this process, the Government's Integrated Tribal Development Project; Administrative Office, Dharni got full support and in the presence of Shri Sawan Kumar; Assistant District Officer in Charge and Project Officer, Dharni, Shri Mahesh Patil, Block Development Officer; Dharni, Shri Rajesh Mali, Naib Tehsildar, Dharni and Shri Shirish Vasve, Naib Tehsildar, Dharni, a total of 454 tribal caste certificates were handed over to the community members on 24 March 2023 and 03 May 2023. Caste certificate is an official document issued by the Government of India which certifies the particular caste or tribe of the person. The caste system in India is a social system that has existed for centuries, and it determines the status and opportunities of the individual in the society.

The importance of caste certificate addresses reservations and provides opportunities for disadvantaged communities to overcome social and economic barriers. It is the primary document that confirms a person's eligibility for reservation quota. Delay in obtaining caste certificate can deprive a person of opportunities and hamper their progress in life.

292 caste certificates were handed over to the community members in the presence of Mr. Sawan Kumar; Incharge and Mahesh Patil; Block Development Officer at Chethar village on 24th March 2023. 162 caste certificates were handed over to the community members in the presence of Mr. Rajesh Mali and Mr. Shirish Vasve at Sosokheda village on 03rd May 2023.
