Ganesh Dhurve Bhaiya of the Health and Nutrition Program organized a training in the village, in which 25 to 30 people participated. There was a discussion on what malnutrition is and it was told that malnutrition is not a disease but a condition that has been going on for a long time.

Types of malnutrition-

  1. Dry malnutrition- Dry malnutrition means identifying by looking at the child, if he looks very thin then it is called dry malnutrition.
  2. Fat Malnutrition- Fat malnutrition means that the health and body look good but still the weight is less. If you want to know this, then press the toe of the foot with your finger; after some time, a pit will form on the foot and if this pit fills up slowly then it is considered as malnutrition.

Way to identify malnutrition-

  1. Not gaining weight according to age.
  2. Height not increasing according to age.
  3. To find out the measurement from the bar circle.
  4. The first suggested remedy for obesity and malnutrition is to look at the toe of the child's opposite foot by pressing it with the thumb.
  5. Having golden hair or a large head.

The main causes of malnutrition are-

  1. Social- Marrying the girl at an early age. If a girl gets married before the age of 18, her body is not mature enough to bear a child, hence the children are born malnourished.
  2. Economic- Financial crisis i.e. being poor, not getting nutritious food, not getting vaccinations to pregnant women due to working in the fields or outside are also the causes of malnutrition.
  3. Tahanka-Tahanka means weak body due to diarrhea or vomiting is also called malnutrition.

By consuming nutritional supplements and getting vaccinations done at the right time, we can avoid malnutrition and can also save our children. Savita Jambekar Didi from Anganwadi, Shravan Karma, Mahendra Lavekar, Ganesh Dhurve from Health and Nutrition Program and Rajendra Jambekar Bhaiya from Agriculture Program participated in the training.
